Count the cash, close the register, and print the Z-report
Count the cash and reconcile it with the expected balance, close the day with a numbered Z-report, print it and view the till report for any period.
In the dashboard
- Menu
- Financials → Daily → Cash reconciliation
- Who
- Managers with the permissions “View Basic Financial Reports” (for the menu item) and “Manage Cash Drawer” (for counting, for the report, and for the daily closing). The expected inventory also requires “POS System Transaction History.” Only in the Komplett Kasse plan and with a POS terminal set up.
Count the cash, close the register, and print the Z-report
Here, you verify whether the cash in the register matches what Terminz calculates based on all cash transactions, and close out the day. You can find the page in the menu under Financials → Daily → Cash reconciliation (/manager/reconciliation). This menu item appears only in the Complete Till plan.
The page has three views that you can switch between at the top: Cash count, Till report, and Daily close. Next to the title, a small help text (“How the cash count works”) explains the basic concept. The expected cash on hand applies to the entire location, not to a single device. Cash payments increase it, while cash refunds, tip payouts, and cash-paid expenses decrease it.
View “Cash count”
Here you compare the counted cash with the expected balance.
- At Terminal device, select the register (“Select a terminal...”). The list shows only registers with a logged-in session. If none are logged in, it will show “Select a terminal device to view reconciliation data”. The count is based on the name of the person logged in at that register, not yours.
- At the top are three numbers for today's date at your location: “Total revenue”, “Total payments”, and “Cash today”. Below that, “Payment breakdown” lists each payment method with the number of sales and the total amount.
- The card “Cash reconciliation” displays “Expected balance” and “Cash sales since count”. The time of the last count is shown in the upper right corner of the card.
- Enter what you counted in Actual cash amount, in euros with a decimal point (for example, 136.04). The amount cannot be negative.
- Tap Reconcile. The button is disabled as long as no amount has been entered or a session is not in progress at the register.
After that, “Reconciliation completed” appears there with three fields: “Expected balance”, “Actual cash amount”, and “Variance”, along with the name and time. Use Reconcile again to count again.
What triggers the count: If the difference is zero, nothing else happens. Everything else goes into the general ledger—a surplus to account 2709, a shortfall to account 4900. The counted amount becomes the new balance, which serves as the starting point for any subsequent counts. A count cannot be changed or deleted, so it's best to count twice.
Use Refresh in the upper right corner to reload the numbers.
Cash Count History
Below that is the “Reconciliation history” for the selected device. Each count is recorded with the time, person, expected amount, and difference. The columns are “Date & time”, “Device”, “Staff”, “Expected”, “Counted”, “Variance”, and “Notes”. You can sort by date, amount counted, and difference, and filter by “Period”. There are 20 rows per page, and there is no search function here. A difference greater than zero is indicated by a “+”; a shortfall is indicated by a “−”. The transaction history is the documentation the tax office wants to see during a till audit: count at regular intervals, not just when there's cause for suspicion.
View “Till report”
The report shows what the till has taken in over a given period. It doesn't record anything permanently; you can view it as often as you like.
- Select Today, Yesterday, This week, or Last week at the top. The week starts on Monday. Or use the Period field (format DD.MM.YYYY) and choose your own time period. A single day is also possible.
- The time period may be no longer than 366 days; otherwise, it will display “Pick at most 366 days.”
- There are five numbers at the top: “Gross sales”, “Sales count”, “Refunded”, “Tips”, and “Discounts”.
- Cards below: “Payment methods” (amount per payment method), “Tax rates” (gross, net, and sales tax per entry), and “Cash on hand” with “Opening cash”, “Cash taken”, “Cash paid out”, and, if necessary, “Count difference” and “Closing cash”.
- Below the cards are the first and last receipt numbers for the period (“Receipts … to …”).
- If there are no sales, “The till sold nothing in this period.” appears there. If the load fails, “The report could not be loaded.” appears there
View “Daily close”
The daily closing is the Z-report: Terminz counts the till, records sales, tax rates, payment methods, and cash since the last closing as a numbered report, and locks it.
The table shows every closing to date with the columns “Z no.”, “Business day”, “Gross sales”, “Counted”, “Variance”, and “Closed by”. Sort by Z-number and difference (newest first); filter by “Period”; 20 rows per page; no search. Tapping a row opens the Z-report. If the list is empty, it displays “No daily close yet. Close the day once the till is done for today.”
Close the day
- Tap Close the day. A window will open with a notice that the Z-report will be finalized after this and can no longer be changed.
- Count the cash and enter the amount at Counted cash (use a comma for euros; do not enter a negative amount). You'll only see the expected balance afterward, so that the count remains unaffected.
- Optional: Note (optional) for your note.
- Tap Close day. The button is disabled until an amount is entered. Nothing happens when you tap Cancel.
After that, the message “Z-report <number> is saved” appears, and the Z-report opens.
Here's what happens:
- The number increments continuously for each location. The closing covers the period since the previous closing; the first one covers the entire period from the start.
- Terminz counts the till total based on your amount. This count works like any other: a difference is posted, the counted amount becomes the new balance, and it appears in the cash count history with the note “Daily Closing Z <Number>.”
- Terminz does not require a specific time for the closing. Each closing covers the time since the last one.
- A Z-report cannot be changed or deleted retroactively.
The Z Report
The Z-report (“Z-report <number>”) contains:
- Till day, time period, who performed the closing, and the first and last receipt numbers;
- “Gross sales” with the number of sales, refunds, discounts, and tips;
- “Tax rates” and “Payment methods”, each with amounts;
- “Cash on hand” with opening balance, cash received, cash paid out, and, if applicable, till discrepancy, “Expected balance”, “Counted”, and “Variance”;
- your note, if you entered one.
Press Print to print the report in receipt format (80 mm wide); press Close to close the window. You can reopen any previous report at any time via the table.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I select a terminal? Only one register with a logged-in session appears. Log in to the register app, and it will show up.
Who is listed as the person performing the count in the history? The person logged in at the selected register, not the manager who taps “Reconcile” in the dashboard.
Can I correct an incorrect count? No, counts and Z-reports cannot be changed or deleted. Recount the items, and Terminz will post the difference from the last count.
Where can I view a month's sales? In a report with a custom time period (up to 366 days) or under Finance → Reports → Financial Report.
Does the expected inventory apply per register? No, it applies to the entire location.
