Create, Limit, and Manage Discount Codes
A discount code is a word, such as SUMMER20, that a customer enters when booking to pay less. You can find the codes in the menu under Marketing & website → Win customers back → Discount codes (/manager/marketing/discounts). They apply to the location selected at the top of the dashboard.
A discount code is different from a promotion. A promotion lowers the price of individual services for a period of time without the customer having to enter anything (see “Promotions”). A discount code must be known to the customer and entered by them.
The List
The columns are labeled Code, Name, Type (percentage or fixed amount), Value, Validity, Uses, Redemptions, Discount Amount, and Active. On mobile devices, only Code, Name, Type, Value, and the “Active” toggle remain visible.
- Uses shows how many times the code has been used, with a limit of “3/10.”
- Redemptions counts how many times the code has been redeemed, and Total discounted shows the total amount you've discounted with it.
- You can sort by code, name, validity, and number of uses. New codes appear first.
- At the top, there's a search bar and the filters Type and Active.
- Tapping a row opens the code for editing.
The toggle in column “Active” immediately enables or disables a code without prompting. A disabled code will be rejected at checkout but remains in the list.
Create a discount code
- Tap New discount in the top-right corner. “Create discount code” opens.
- Fill in the fields:
- Code: Required. Terminz automatically capitalizes it, for example, “SUMMER20.” Each code can only be used once per location; otherwise, an error message will appear. The code cannot be changed later.
- Name: Required. This is your description, for example, “Summer Promotion.”
- Description (optional): Free text for your reference.
- Discount type: “Percentage” or “Fixed amount”.
- Discount % (for percentages) or Discount amount (€) (for fixed amounts): Required. Minimum 0.01; for percentages, maximum 100; two decimal places.
- Under “Usage limits” (all optional; blank means unlimited):
- Minimum order amount: Minimum amount in €, at which the code becomes valid.
- Max. uses: Total number of times the code may be redeemed, minimum 1.
- Max. per customer: The maximum number of times a single customer may use it, with a minimum of 1.
- First visit only: Does not apply to customers who have already had an appointment with you.
- Under “Validity period”, select Valid from and Valid until. Both are required, and the end date must be after the start date (“End date must be after start date.”). The code is valid from the start of the first day until the end of the last day (23:59:59), in your location's time zone.
- Tap New discount at the bottom of the form to save. New codes take effect immediately.
To make changes, tap the row in the list or select Edit from the row menu. “Edit discount code” will open; tap Save to save. If you clear a limit field, Terminz will remove the limit.
How a Code Works During Booking
A code is rejected if
- it doesn't exist at this location, is disabled, or has been archived,
- it isn't valid yet or has expired,
- “Max. uses” has been reached,
- the customer has exhausted “Max. per customer”,
- “First visit only” is set and the customer has already visited your business or is not yet known,
- the merchandise value is below “Minimum order amount”.
For “Percentage”, Terminz calculates the discount from the total amount and rounds down to the nearest whole cent. A “Fixed amount” can never be higher than the total amount. For a booking with multiple services, Terminz distributes the discount across the appointments. Upon booking, “Uses” increments by one.
The following can enter the code:
- Customers during the booking process, in the “Discount Code” section on the confirmation page. A link with
?code=SOMMER20appended will automatically enter it there. - You and your team when creating an appointment in the dashboard in the “Discount” section: As a manager, select an active code from the list “Select a discount” or type it in at “Enter discount code” and tap “Apply”.
Display on the public page
Under “Public page” in the form, enable Show on public page. The discount will then appear in the Offers section of your public page. You can also add a short label (Badge (optional), such as “NEW” or “POPULAR”), enter a Public description (optional), and bring the code to the front with Mark as featured.
Once the code is visible on the page, the form displays “Own page” with a link that you can copy and send. Anyone who opens it will see the offer with the code and redeem it when booking.
Archiving
In the row menu, Archive removes a code from the list. This deactivates it, and it cannot be reactivated. If you need it again, create a new code.
Frequently Asked Questions
The customer sees “Invalid discount code”. Why is that? The list above lists all the reasons. First, check whether the code is active, whether the time period is correct, and whether there's still room within the usage limit.
Can I set a code to be valid for one year? Yes, using “Valid from” and “Valid until”. You cannot leave the end date open or set it to run indefinitely; both dates are required.
Can I rename the code myself? No. Create a new code and deactivate the old one.
How can I see the results of a code? In the list under “Redemptions” and “Total discounted”.
Does a discount code also work at checkout? This page only describes the booking process (online booking and appointments in the dashboard). It does not specify whether the checkout app accepts codes.
