Create, Sort, and Assign Service Categories

Categories are the headings under which your customers search for a service: in online booking, on your website, and at checkout. You can find them in the menu under Services → Service categories (/manager/services/categories).

A category always belongs to exactly one location. If you have multiple locations, you manage the categories for each one individually.

The page has two tabs: Categories and Assignment. Next to the title, a small help icon (“How categories order your services”) explains what you can do here.

Tab “Categories”

The list shows each category along with the number of items it contains. Tapping the number reveals which items are included (“No service sits in this category right now.” if it's empty). Below the list is the note: “Category names appear exactly like this to your customers — in online booking, on your page and at the till.” Category names are never translated or reworded. Use the terms you actually use in your store.

Create a new category: Type in the field “New category” (example: “e.g. Laser hair removal”) and then tap Add. Empty names are ignored. As long as no category exists yet, it will say “No categories yet. Create the first one.”

Reorder: Drag a category by its handle (“Drag to reorder”) up or down. This is the order in which your customers will see them when booking online, on your website, and at checkout. What's at the top is seen first.

Rename: In the row menu (the three dots, “More”), click Rename to change the name directly in the row and confirm with the checkmark “Save” (or discard with “Cancel”). After that, Terminz asks “Rename category?” and shows how many services the new name will immediately appear in everywhere. It only applies the change Rename in the dialog box.

Merge: Merge two categories that mean the same thing. Click Merge into… in the row menu, then select “Pick a target category” in the dialog at “Merge into”, followed by Merge. The services are moved along with them. The source category is deleted in the process; this cannot be undone.

Archive: In the row menu, select Archive. The category disappears from all lists. If services are still linked to it, select a new category at “Move services to” or leave them as is with “Leave without a category”. The services themselves are retained in either case.

Tab “Assignment”

Here you can categorize multiple services at once. On the left are the “Categories” (“Tap to select, drag to assign”), and on the right are the services. You can search for a service (“Search services…”) and switch between “All” and “Open” (still uncategorized). At the top, “Categorized” shows your progress; once everything is done, it will say “All services categorized”.

  • On a computer: Drag an achievement onto a category or select the category and click on the achievements.
  • On a phone: Tap a category, then tap the achievements that belong to it. Use “Change category” to switch categories.
  • An achievement without a category is indicated by “No category — tap to assign”. Tap “Set category” on the achievement to select a category directly; “Remove” removes the assignment.

Changes are not saved until you tap Save in the bar at the bottom (which might say, for example, “2 unsaved changes”). After that, “2 changes saved” will appear.

You can also assign individual services directly in the service form (see “Create and Edit a Service”).

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do my customers see the categories? In online booking, on your location page, and at checkout—under the name you assign here and in the order they appear in the list.

What happens to the services when I archive a category? They remain. You decide in the dialog box whether they move to another category or remain uncategorized.
